OIA Hosts Lunchtime Salon with AIT: "Studying in the U.S.: Everything You Need to Know!"
On Thursday, April 24, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) partnered with the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) to host a lunchtime salon titled "Studying in the U.S.: Everything You Need to Know!" The event took place from 12:00 to 1:00 PM in Room 116 of the College of Humanities, drawing an audience of 75 faculty, staff, and students.
Logan Krusac, Public Diplomacy Officer at AIT, led the session with an engaging icebreaker quiz about the United States. Highlighting that fewer than 10% of participants had previously visited the U.S., Krusac encouraged students to explore AIT’s monthly study abroad seminars and available internship opportunities.
Sharing his personal journey of learning Chinese and gaining international experience, Krusac emphasized the diverse pathways to becoming a U.S. diplomat. He credited his willingness to embrace new environments in his youth for shaping his bilingual proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills.
During a lively Q&A session, Krusac pointed out that strong listening skills are crucial for a successful diplomatic career, helping to minimize misunderstandings and build mutual understanding. He also addressed how Asian students can adapt to U.S. classroom culture, noting that active participation and preparedness are key in American academic settings, where dialogue plays a central role.
To assist those considering studying in the United States, Education Outreach Coordinator Darian provided copies of the U.S. Higher Education Guide in both print and digital formats, offering valuable resources for further exploration.
The OIA looks forward to hosting more events that connect students and faculty with international learning and career opportunities.
